Cedar Tree Facts

The Cederberg region in South Africa – the only place in the world where Rooibos is grown – comes from Widdringtonia cedarbergensis, the former scientific name for the Clanwilliam Cedar, a rare species endemic to the region. However, this tree actually belongs to the Cypress family.

The word 'Cedar' means an aromatic wood.

Northern White Cedar (of the Cypress family) is regarded as a symbol of 'Immortality' (Mediterranean).

Freshly-sawn pieces of Red Cedar wood are used as a moth deterrent, as they avoid the scent.

Known for its excellent timber and in the British climate stays sound when used outside, i.e. it is long lasting and doesn't rot.

It was originally planted everywhere because of its beautiful 'architectural' shape.
